College Football Today: Ohio State vs. USC Review

I'll be right up front...I am a huge Ohio State Fan! As a former Buckeye player what else would you expect? To all of my USC friends (and I have been hearing from many of you; ughh), USC should feel very lucky, because for nearly the entire game they were totally out played. Coach Tressel did a great job getting the Buckeyes ready and coached a fine game. The Bucks played above par with the Trojans athletically and physically; including matching overall team speed.

I, along with many Buckeye fans was obviously bummed with the 18-15 USC win. I am however, totally proud of their effort. Except for one dumb first quarter interception, we should have achieved a well deserved win. Terrelle Pryor's less-than-prime-time performance and not rushing as a team for over 120 yards on the ground (rushed 88) were important factors as well. Cudda, Wooda and Shudda are favorite hindsight pals but never more than the OSU/USC game.  The bottom line is though, the score matters the most and USC won and Ohio State lost.  The Trojans put together a great drive when they needed it.

The one area that OSU did come out on top was in the area of displaying team class. One friend who attended the contest shared that after the game while the Buckeyes were engaged in their 50 yard line team prayer, several Trojan's were skipping along the side of the field taunting Buckeye fans. Values matter and hats off to the Buckeyes. Don't be surprised if the Buckeyes are someone to reckon with down the stretch.

  1. Hey Buckeye...

Don't you think the offensively play calling was sorely lacking??? I guess that comes from Bollman then through Tressel. I really like Tressel, but they couldn't have used more than eight or ten plays. The Trojans didn't have to think... when the Buckeyes were going to run the ball they setup that way at the outset, when they were going to pass, they did the same. It wasn't obvious to me without a second look.

Is Heron really the best we can muster at RB??? They should change his nickname to "Bonk". He tripped over the line of scrimmage more than once. He fell into the line of scrimmage backwards more than once.

I re-watched the game and stop-motioned plays to see what exactly happened. I think they we coached into being so afraid to make a mistake that they didn't really PLAY... on offense. I don't think Pryor was contained, I think that is what he was asked to do... stay in the pocket. (wondered if he was thinking about Sam Bradford)

I thiink they will be someone to be reckoned with down the stretch... just not sure if the stretch is this year or sometime between now and when Pryor graduates. Of course, with one loss they can focus on the Big Ten title and, of course, that last game of the season.

    Nice blog...

  2. I still think if Pryor was at his best the rest of the issues are mute. On a big stage in a big game your primere player(s) have to step up and not make rookie mistakes. They have to make big plays. The pic at the beginging and failing to get the ball to open recievers when we were inside the 10 were huge. I do think we could have run Pryor more but anyone of us leading up to the game would have loved to have us be in the position to win as we were. I can't fault Tressel too much for that.
